D.C. United on ESPN.com

I root for only two football teams: D.C. United and the Minnesota Vikings
So, I don’t have any love for Washington’s American-style football team. To me they have a obnoxious name1, an annoying owner, and a checkered past.
Yet, the burgundy-and-gold are a nice story this year. Overcoming poor in-game coaching2, injuries to key players, and the brutal murder of a teammate is a great triumph. For just this moment, I was OK with ESPN.com running the above headline at 12:30 a.m. ET.
But, let’s not make it a habit, m’kay? D.C. United is still DC’s best football team.
Circled and Stared
That Vikings–Broncos score is deeply depressing. After watching the Vikes lose to Washington last week, the overtime field goal this Sunday was too much. *Sigh* The Queens were too one-dimension this year. They could run the ball and stop the run, and that’s it. Tarvaris Jackson had 7 TD passes and 12 pickles during the season. Hopefully he’ll be less Joe Kapp and more Fran Tarkenton or Warren Moon next year.
Notes:
- D.C. United’s name is bullshit, I know. They didn’t unite anything. But, at least it isn’t a racial slur.
- Gibbs did make a brilliant challenge in the second half of the game against Minnesota. But, I swear, at least four times this year the camera would catch him wearing a look of complete bewilderment. It was like he was mind was screaming “THOSE WIDE OUTS AREN’T ART MONK AND GARY CLARK! WHERE IS RUSS GRIMM? WHERE AM I?
Comment:
Please, no more pointyball coverage. (Pointing out the stupid mistake was fine, of course.) There are a zillion places for pointyball opinion; I come here for the real thing.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
