Football Weekend

All four channels of my deluxe RCA Victor Television Receiver were broadcasting football this weekend – the European kind and the American kind. There were amateurs playing on Saturday – especially for my United – and pros on Thursday, Sunday, and Monday. Pure bliss!

Gently down the sideline
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.

Before the game RFK announced a team called the “Unknowns” from the SYC league in Virginia were part of the Team Tunnel. But, then all these unknowns walked out wearing United’s black and red. Totally confusing!

Still, the DC United U35 “Unknowns” did well against Fake Real Salt Lake. Freddy Adu’s goal was well placed (unlike Scott Garlic). Garth Lagerway’s recall of Freddy’s shot was less elegant. In fact, it was down-right forced. We have some suggestions . . .

Back-to-school Night?

Unsolicited, unprofessional advise to Garth Lagerway on the use of “Sweet Creamery Butter”:

  • Mix-up the cadence and intonation of the phrase. For example, I would have gone with a smooth, deliberate “Sweet. Creamery. Butter.” to describe Freddy’s goal. I dunno. Mix it up. Don’t shout everything.
  • Ditch that ”Back to school night” business. That could have been good. If it was a school night; last week. Also, don’t mix the catch phrases.
  • Stop using it in bed. She’s not impressed.

Rating: 3 (out of 5) Upper 90s! Minus two for the tie, officiating, WSHS’s Kara Lawson losing in game 5, and all the suspensions.

Upper 90s!
