Two stolen games . . .

Complete DCU v RBNY pre-game coverage!

A Far Post exclusive with Rob Stone!

Warning! Semi-real journalism!

After United stole the game and series away from a determined, but unlucky New York Red Bulls team. The Far Post team jogged out to the car and raced out of Lot 8 and back to our world headquarters at the Arlington County Jail. We then scooted to Summers Restaurant via the tunnel we dug during the summer. With a keen eye toward the door looking for the Sheriff and another on the Houston-Chivas USA game, we spotted the ESPN broadcast team heading for our booth - Rob Stone, Brandi Chastain, Waldo and some producer type (we think).

The Stoner was friendly and all smiles. He offered us a hardy, “Hello!” and an unprompted “Good win for you guys, tonight!” when he saw our United gear.

I suggested it was a lucky win. But The Stoner dismissed me, “hey, a win is a win.”

The ESPN-ers sat down at a large corner booth and watched the rest of the Cowboys-Panthers and Chivas USA-Houston games. Later “Fat Tony” Meola and Chris Henderson joined the group.

We considered picking a fight with Meola and Henderson, but thought better of it. Instead, we got Brandi Chastain to autograph our bras. What?! We like the support of a bra . . .

After being out-played, out-hustled, and pushed around for 86 minutes, DC United stole the game and series from RBNY on a toe poke from Christian Gomez. The authorities were alerted. But United’s “blackout” made it too dark to see.

Bruce Arena had his team ready. Novak . . . not so much. RBNY used some aggressive defending to disrupt United’s preferred style of play. NY was also added by some very poor play from Erpen and Gross.

NY forced Freddy to defend by pushing the much larger and more aggressive Marvel Wynne deep down the field. Erpen and Gross just sort of sucked; it didn’t seem NY was doing anything special to them.

So United advances. But, it will take more magic and luck to get past the Revs.

We wuz robbed! – Part 2

Red cards, late goals, fights . . . all in a day for Chivas USA.

The Dynamo scored the series winning goal on the lamest header I’ve ever seen. Eddie Robinson’s header straight down was hilarious. But, the Dynamo got a good bounce and the ball popped up to Brian Ching who snapped it into the net.

“I told you!” Waldo exclaimed between sips of beer. “Brian Ching!”

Chivas USA’s tantrum after the game can be excused. If you were robbed like that you would be howling for blood too!
