The Great Chase!

Pachuca! (Gesundheit.)

A talented Pachuca side completely dominated D.C. United in a 2 –0 win (where have I seen that score before?) tonight in the first leg of the semifinal CONCACAF Champions Cup match.

United was forced to chase Pachuca’s superior possession the entire match leading to complete fatigue and several mental errors in the second half. United’s early season tendency to be slow in making passing decisions lead to costly midfield turnovers that forced the Black-and-red to chase even more. (Too often United players had the ball at their feet taking multiple neutral touches while their hands were outstretched pleading for someone to show.)

This is the second game in a row where the forwards had very poor service and Gallardo’s and Emilio’s styles didn’t mesh.

DC returns home for an MLS match on Saturday and then the second leg of this series on April 9th. Unless United can get Jamie Moreno back to play closer to Gallardo they will lose this series. Pachuca is too good and playing in DC is a much easier task than playing in Hidalgo.

On the plus side . . . the Caps won tonight creating at tie for first in the NASCAR Southeast division.
