We are voting “Yes!”

League of Soccer Nerd Voters

The Washington Business Journal asks the following question:
Should D.C. taxpayers finance a new soccer stadium at Poplar Point?”

No, D.C. taxpayers should not finance a new stadium. But that’s not what is being proposed! by the city! So you should answer “Yes” to the poll – since I suspect the result will be used to prove that the city should not finance a soccer stadium.

According to The Washington Post:
The city would finance construction bonds with excess tax revenue being collected by the District to pay for the baseball stadium. D.C. United would be responsible for paying for any costs above $150 million, according to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the plan is still being finalized.”

Granted the plan isn’t final. But bonds and excess revenue need to be mentioned in that poll. The question should have read: “Should D.C. use bonds and excess tax revenue from the baseball stadium to help finance a soccer stadium at Poplar Point?”

A rant:

National’s Park has limited potential to host non-baseball events. The Pope’s event will turn out to be the exception, not the norm for National’s Park. But a soccer facility can host United games, women’s league games, international matches (both involving the a US team or not) and it can host other events – concerts, high school football or soccer finals, high graduations, with greater ease. I’m only aware of a few baseball stadiums that are used for more than just baseball and those stadiums are mostly aging, domed stadiums in cities desperate to build a new stadium. (Am I right, Minnesota?)

Anyway, let’s just stuff this poll with Yes, m’kay? You can vote often by clearing you cookies and voting again. (Just sayin’ …)
