African Cup of Nations – Day 1

"CAN" I get a bowl instead?

muntari.jpgThe 2008 African Nations Cup kicked off today in Ghana, but you and I didn’t see it because it wasn’t on the tee-vee! I’m looking at you FSC!

Thankfully the inter-tubes have arranged for a bunch for trucks to carry the video pictures to us at http://www.ghana2008.tv/ . (Unfortunately you have to use IE. Jerks.)

We didn’t find the internet site until after the game, but we plan to watch the rest of the tournament and give you all the poorly typed reporting you have come to love and respect.

Best Game (we didn’t see)

Ghana – Guinea, natch. Sulley Muntari saves the day for the Black Stars with his 89 minute goal. Dancing ensues. Guinea is devastated. This is gonna be a good tournament.

The Final Whistle

The ball they are using is the best sphere we have ever seen. I insist that MLS work with adidas to create something similar for MLS. The MLS ball should have lots of explosions on it — oh! and eagles and stars! Also, some sort of microchip to make it glow with a purple halo so us ‘Mericans can follow the action . . . “Betty. They never stop. When can I go eat more food? I like our football better.

Overall George Weah Rating for the Day

Three out of five continents. Everything is just starting.
