Day 1 – Mathematically Eliminated
Switzerland was best in all the statistical categories except two: goals scored and shots saved. The Nati out shot, out fouled, and had more possession, but they couldn’t get a goal. The Czech Republic ran a 90 minute prevent defense strategy and got away with it when they poached a goal in 70th minute on a fumbling side-foot shot from Vaclav Sverkos. Sometimes the beautiful game is cruel and unusual.
Best Game
Portugal – Turkey. This game was as one-sided at the Switzerland – Czech Republic game, but in this case, the winning team dominated both the shots and the goals. Ronaldo is fun to watch (even if he is a diva) and Pepe is everything I want from a defender. Still, I’m really craving a Turkey sandwich . . . Gertrude!

Meet Trix and Flix. They are the illegitimate twins of Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario’s Princess Peach.
They’ll be making public appearances throughout the tournament, but the best place to find them is at the post game raves and break dancin’ on cardboard outside St Jakob Park.
