Day 12 - Mother Rush-ah!
Watching Russia play is a blast. Rush, rush, rush! All they do is attack and shoot at will. I love that!
Talking Heads: Rece Davis is rock solid as the lead studio host. I think soccer and college football have many similarities; they both have rapid fans, every locality plays it so there are lots of good teams and lots of bad teams, and finally both sports overstate the importance of coaches. Rece Davis’ primary job as ESPN’s college football host makes him perfectly suited for this assignment. I also love when Davis pokes fun at Foudy’s or Gray’s hyperbole. Yesterday Foudy jokingly suggested the score of the Netherlands – Russia game would be 10 to 9 and Davis joking called her out about it. “Oh, no it won’t! . . . It would be fun if it was . . .” and then later in the telecast added “and Julie thinks this game will be 15 to 14!”
Best Game – final edition.
The tournament now goes to a single game a day. The best of today’s two games was Russia – Sweden. Everything was on the line for both team and Russia showed up. The Swedes were on their heels the whole game. You know what, Foudy? That quarterfinal game may actually be 10 to 9!
